You had an irrigation system installed so that your lawn and garden would look good and you would not have to lift a finger. While most of your yard does, you there are a few spots of brown grass and dying greenery. You may have noticed that some of the heads are not coming up or spraying and some that spray wildly when they do pop up. It may also be that the heads come up, but do not spray enough water. These are all indications that you need lawn sprinkler system repair.
The two most common problems associated with irrigation system installation are having sprinkler heads that do not work and low water pressure. To determine if either of these issues is affecting your sprinkler, you need to go out in the yard and inspect the heads. If they are cracked or missing, then you know that they need to be replaced and may have been set too high thereby causing someone to run over them either with a car or the lawnmower.
If replacing the head does not solve the issue, then the mechanism may need to be cleaned out because it is clogged. If this is the case, you will see the heads come up and go down, but no water will come out. If water does come out, it will do so unevenly. You will, therefore, need to dig up the heads and take them apart. Remove the basket and rinse the entire thing with water until all of the dirt has been removed.
If low water pressure is causing lawn trouble, then very little water will come out if the heads pop up, at all. The first thing you should check is whether or not the backflow is fully open. If the backflow is open, and the water still is not coming out of the heads, then it is time to go looking for leaks. The best way to do so is to determine which heads are not working to their full capacity. You will then find that the problem is between the last working head and the first nonworking head.
You should also look for signs of leaking water by looking for water that bubbles up from the soil when the sprinklers are running. You also may notice a depression in the ground or a very wet area in your yard. If you come across running water, you should follow it to the highest point in order to find where it is coming from. Once you find the source of the problem, you can repair it.
If the above-mentioned repairs do not fix the problem, then it may be electrical in nature. You will need to check to ensure that the voltage control is working, as well as the fuses and the transformers. If the problems persist, it may be time to call out a lawn sprinkler system repair specialist to come out and assess your system in order to determine the problem and the best way to fix it.
